Visit the Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve to explore Arizona archaeology while enjoying local music and engaging art demonstrations. Acclaimed multidisciplinary artist and award-winning flute player Randy Kemp (Euchee Tribe of Oklahoma/Mvskoke Nation of Oklahoma/Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) will perform live; a retired Senior Environmental Graphic Designer from Arizona State University, he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Katherine K. Herberger College of Arts in Tempe and an Associate of Arts degree from Bacone College, where he studied under noted artists W. Richard West Sr. and Ruthe Blalock Jones. A versatile creator working in painting, printmaking, mixed media, performance art, and storytelling, Kemp’s work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and private collections worldwide. Returning artist August Wood of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will share traditional O’odham pottery techniques using natural materials commonly used by the Akimel O’odham, while mother-daughter duo Lucy Pinon and Antoinette Pinon will demonstrate how they create their traditional PeePosh pottery.
