About

Diane has been an artist from about the age of four. She was always drawing and particularly liked to draw trees. She grew up in Illinois farm country, studied art in school, and raised her children there and enjoyed all of the art and culture of the Midwest. After the children flew the nest, she moved to the desert southwest. This beautiful and harsh land has captured her heart and challenged her creativity. Her work has been exhibited in many venues in Phoenix area. Diane is currently the Operations Manager at the WHAM Art Center where she also has her art studio.

Artist Statement

I have always had a compulsion to record what I saw. It was a need to capture my feelings to keep as a visual memory. Over the years I have worked in several art mediums - graphite, color pencil, watercolor, oils, acrylics, mixed media, alcohol ink, paper arts, jewelry crafting - in short, I love to play. my main passion is working with watercolor. I have found it to be the most challenging and ever-changing type of paint to work with. The way that the colors move and blend are seductive but often difficult to control. It is almost impossible to get the exact same result if you try to recreate a painting that you particularly liked and were happy with. In recent years, I have enjoyed creating watercolor paintings using a batik method of using melted wax as a resist. I have been blessed to have been given the opportunity to let creativity give me peace and contentment.
