The Office of Arts and Culture is thrilled to announce the 2026 Plein Air Competition in conjunction with the City of Glendale's Annual Folk and Heritage Festival. The competition will be held on Saturday, February 28th beginning at 8:00 AM at Historic Sahuaro Ranch Park. We hope to see you for another amazing competition.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Registration is on-site at the Fruit Packing Shed at Sahuaro Ranch Park beginning 8:00 AM only on Saturday, February 28th, 2026.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

RULES FOR THE EVENT: 1. Painting Area: City of Glendale City Limits An artist may paint any subject/scene outdoors, as long as it is within Glendale city limits. 2. All canvas/panels/paper will be stamped on the back side PRIOR to painting at the time of registration. NO unstamped art will be accepted for judging. An unlimited number may be stamped but no more than two completed art (2) can be submitted for the competition 3. Painting Time Period: Each work of art must be started and completed "en plein air" on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. (registration opens) to 2:30 p.m. (setup for judging) 4. The event will be held rain or shine, so come prepared 5. Only the following mediums will be accepted: Oils, watercolor, acrylics, and pastels. 6. Size of unframed artwork is not to exceed 18" x 24". 7. All artists must be 18 years of age and older. 8. Artists must provide their own materials and a sturdy easel(s) for display during the judging process. Artists, or artist-designated representative, will be required to remain with their easels during this time and will be responsible for the safety of their paintings. The City of Glendale Arts & Culture Program shall assume no responsibility for loss or damage to any work, display or person during this event. 9. Judging will begin at 3:30 p.m. 10. All participants must keep their entries on display until 5:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for artists to interact with people who will be viewing the art.
